Jens Voigt

This guy's amazing---he was involved in a horrible Stage 16 crash in the Tour de France. He lost consciousness for 3 to 4 minutes and sustained crushing facial injuries. What a recovery to be able and race Tour of Missouri--this really made our commitment to The American Restaurant worth it. I have signatures from Team SaxoBank on one of my jerseys-including Jens.

Tour of Missouri Stage 7 Kansas City

It's amazing and fun when pro cyclist's enjoy hanging out with fans before, during and after races. Christian VandeVelde, last years TOM overall winner broke a bone in his hand after getting stuck in a Stage 1 crash. He was signing autographs and getting pics with fans---that's Doug Obershaw in the background! Nice pic Doug!!

Tour of Missouri-Stage 1/St. Louis

Cate, kids and I had a superb time in St. Louis for Labor Day weekend. After helping Dad paint the garage floor, Brad and I had a two hour mountain biking session with a total of 1000 feet of climbing in less than two hours! Yes-in St. Louis!!!

The next day we headed to downtown STL to take in Stage 1 of the Tour! Unbelievable venue---and fabulous job the local organizing committee did putting the event together. This pic was taken by another spectator and so happy he took it. Cate also ran into a college friend, who, no kidding, just three minutes before we saw him said to me "Shoot---I wish I would have contacted Dave through FB or email to say we'd be here!!" How cool to see him!!

Humpty Dumpty had a great fall

What's a personal blog site without a little vanity!!? This is the trail section in Crowder State Park, Trenton, MO called "Humpty Dumpty". The "wash out" logs laying across this steep section keep erosion from happening and create a radical decent. If you "nose wheelie" over one log and hit the next immediate log with weight forward----you're likely to "have a great fall" at the bottom of the next log!

In this pic, I got great air instead----had to hit the brakes at the bottom to make a 120 degree turn to the left too. What blast to test your limits on a mountain bike!!

Grandma helps Rawson with tuxedo

I walked into the hotel room after parking the car---and saw this scene. I'll never forget seeing Mom dressing Rawson in the tuxedo. I was reminded of Mom getting me dressed for church or special occasions!! Wow--memorable!

Ice Cream Break

Between running the chain saw and moving brush at Grandpa's--I heard the ice cream truck enter the neighborhood. The kids waited in anticipation of it for about 15 minutes as they could here the usual "ice cream truck" music luring them in!!

Work time at Grandpa's

I remember as a kid watching Dad and my Uncle Bud, Steve and Elmer all working at Grandpa Jenks's in Olathe, KS. As kids, Brad, Carissa and I would always be involved---trying to help somehow. Now---our kids are doing the same thing---watching me and Uncle Brad work at Grandpa's. Rawson and Vinny couldn't get enough of it. I think the girls were shopping!!

Future Fishers of the world

Here's Brad---teaching Vinny the finer techniques of fishing at Grandpa's. That's right--we teach them to fish---not just give them the fish!

Fishing with Kids

I wonder what age the kids are and Dad's not continually untangling fishing line on kids fishing poles. Rebekah's the first one to get muddy, jump in puddles and sit in dirt. She digs the fishing at Grandpa's.

Victoria's first bike

Couldn't resist putting this on the blog----thanks to the Grandparents for the $$'s to buy the gift. She's getting around on it really well now too. By the way, it even has a white basket with flowers (not pictured)--it was Cate's, not my idea to buy the basket!!!! :)
